the members of this group find the village icons and pictures of 'village people' to be racist.

join! invite all your friends. the goal is to reach 300 by friday. When we reach this goal we will mass email naseeb feedback and email monis.
-----------------
Why are these pics racist?

The 3 or 4 pictures they use to represent the village people are all pictures of Africans with spears and masks.

The default image icons are teepees. I've posted a picture in every journal so you folks can see some of the
pictures. Not only are they racist but in poor taste.

These pictures, the teepees and terminology caricaturize Africans and Nativa Americans to promote the village
feature on Naseeb.

Naseeb thought it was "cool" or funny to use these pics, thereby playing on existing stereotypes of Africans as savages. Not all villagers are Africans with spears and masks.

Why donate

Once upon a time, there broke out a fire in a forest. All the animals
and birds living there started running out of the forest to save
their lives. The fire was intense and the flames were spreading all
over the place. Everyone was trying to leave the place as quickly as
possible. Everyone was desperate to get out of the forest safely.

But there was a little bird, a sparrow, who decided to do something
about this fire and help his fellow animals and birds save their
lives and homes. He went to the river and filled his small mouth with
few drops of water. He then started flying towards the fire to put it
off.

On his way to towards the fire, an old bird saw him and asked him why
is he going towards the fire when everyone is going away from it. The
brave sparrow replied he wants to put off the fire of the forest so
that his friends could save their lives and go back to their homes.
The old bird then said that the amount of small water he has in his
mouth would not be enough to put off the fire, so there is no use
going towards the forest. On listening to his comments, the brave
sparrow said that I know these few drops would not be enough for the
fire but I also know that at the day of Judgement, when Allah will
make a list of birds who helped His creatures during the devastation
of this fire, my name would be on the top.

Please, donate a little, maybe 5, 10, 20, 100 dollars but please
donate. Donate as much as you can for the Victims of the Earthquake
in Pakistan. InshaALLAH your name would be on the top when Allah will
make a list of people who helped His mankind. Think about it, this is
the month of Ramadan and you have an opportunity.

Do not feel ashamed if the amount of charity is small because to
refuse the needy is an act of greater shame. -- Imam Ali (AS)

Where to donate

The Association for the Development of Pakistan's (ADP) effort to raise funds for earthquake relief has seen a very successful start. In 36 hours, we have raised more than $30,000 through our website at DevelopPakistan.org. Thank you to everyone who has contributed and spread the word, as well as to everyone working to respond to this tragedy.

This evening we recieved some very exciting news: Zia Chisti, the CEO of TRG and Orthoclear, has generously offered to match the next $25,000 raised by ADP! Each dollar you contribute to the ADP Earthquake Relief Funds will be matched by Mr. Chishti (up to $25,000) producing double the impact for the many victims of this disaster in Pakistan. If we are able to raise as much money Tuesday as we did Monday, we will have collected $75,000 in less than three days to benefit the many victims in Pakistan. Please be generous in your donations!

ADP is collecting donations directed towards relief work via three different channels:
1. President's Earthquake Relief Fund, which is being overseen by the president of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf,
2. Edhi Foundation , which is undeniably the most trusted NGO in Pakistan with a large operational network throughout the country, and
3. ADP's Long Term Earthquake Relief Fund, which will fund redevelopment once the immediate needs have been met.

We will be transferring funds to both external organizations frequently over the coming days to better enable them to respond to this disaster.
You may contribute to any of these funds and take advantage of this wonderful matching offer at DevelopPakistan.org. Please circulate this e-mail as widely as you can, so that others might take advantage of this opportunity to double their contribution to those in need.

Help us raise the next $50,000!

Regards,
Adnan Khalid

speaking of questionable naseeb practices....does anyone else have a problem with the profile viewing log thing? it sounds like a weird form of voyeurism, a total invasion of privacy, and a means of encouraging masti on naseeb!!!

what think you?

March 16, 2005 at 6:31pm

Momokam

lol. For naseeb, it's first and foremost a way of making money. Some morons let their curiosity get the best of them in the beginning, and that was it. They paid x dollars to see who was viewing them. Problem is, nobody wants to be interpreted as "seeing" another person, and, more importantly, any real "stalker" would pay a couple of bucks to be invisible. Hence the antidote, invisible browsing feature, for 2x dollars. All this ... to get to the same exact place everybody was in at point zero: people have viewer capability, but can't really see each other cuz of the invisible feature. Point zero. BUT, naseeb makes 2x dollars. It's a money making scam/scheme. Nothing more. People are easy to fool, huh?

Here is the info that they post in the FAQ section:

What is Naseeb's picture policy?
The pictures you upload to your profile page on Naseeb are meant to identify you to your friends, family and to people you might wish to meet. We encourage you to put up current pictures of yourself, but note that you are not actually required to upload any pictures to use Naseeb.

Please do not upload pictures containing only pets and animals, unless you are visibly in it with them. We don't accept pictures depicting violence, nudity, scenery, artwork, or copyrighted images. Pictures of celebrities, cartoon characters, or paintings/artwork are not appropriate for Naseeb. Keep in mind that any images offensive to Muslim cultural sensitivities are not appropriate for this site.****

Naseeb does not have the ability to confirm the authenticity of every image, and cannot confirm the ownership of artwork or other uploaded images, so please upload only those images that most accurately depict you currently.
