...and once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return ~ Da Vinci
For all those who have been lucky enough to experience this high and long to return like me and for those who imagine what it is like to soar high above the earth and mountains. To break out from under a layer of clouds into the bright blue skies; this is for you:)

As most of us are aware that China and Pakistan developed a new fighter plane JF-17 (FC-1). What do you think about that plane? and what do you think about the impact on pakistani avaiation industry? Any ideas?

Why Airplanes Are Better than Women
An airplane will kill you quick . . . a woman takes her time.
Airplanes like to do it inverted.
Airplanes can be turned on by a flick of a switch.
An airplane does not get mad if you 'touch and go.'
An airplane does not object to a preflight inspection.
Airplanes come with manuals.
Airplanes have strict weight and balance limits.
You can fly an airplane any time of the month.
Airplanes don't have parents.
Airplanes don't whine unless something is really wrong.
Airplanes don't care about how many other airplanes you have flown.
When flying, you and your airplane both arrive at the same time.
Airplanes don't mind if you look at other airplanes, or if you buy
airplane magazines.
If your airplane is too loose, you can tighten it.
It's always OK to use tie downs on your airplane.

What in the hell do you do when all things start to go wrong all at once. It was freakin' humid as hell today so the airplane didn't want to fly too nicely until I did my touchdown and then it happened. The damn thing gets caught up in ground effect and I probably use up 1200 feet just getting the plane down, then the damn Beta malfunctions and I start to panic. Try to use aero braking but the airspeed was too high and gets caught up again in ground effect and climbs maybe 20 feet. I added thrust for go around but the damn plane didn't want to climb and fu*king settles itself down (Hard) on the runway. I probably had just over 1/4th of a runway left so I pressed the damn brakes like there's no tomorrow (even though it's not recommended). Finally I come to a stop and had to make a U-Turn to get on the taxiway. Lt. Cmdr Burns (My On-Wing) wasn't too happy but the XO said he got a good laughter out of watching the whole scenario from the tower. Barely passed today, probably should've failed but they were kind enough. WTF though?

I would go around and avoid risking a bad landing!

Maybe raising the flaps would have done the trick. You would lose the extra lift.

Take it easy and be nice to yourself and your plane too ;-)

Salamz,
For the private pilots, have you ever had a landing where you were forced to use a forward slip to make it down safely?

I was out today practicing full-rudder forward slips to landing. Alhamdulillah, all the landings went quite well, but nothing today even came close to the shenanigans on my previous flight.

The airport here in Gainesville was quite busy with traffic flying south to Lakeland for Sun-N-Fun, so the pattern was unusually crowded. I had come from an uncontrolled field into Gainesville with intentions to land. I was lined up with the runway on an 8 mile final, so there wasn't too much that I was supposed to be doing. However, I was directed to follow an airplane making right traffic in the pattern. Meanwhile, we had two airplanes shooting touch and goes to a cross runway flying left traffic, and a jet following me (#3 for the same runway). I was overtaking the right traffic, so I stayed high to avoid encroaching too much as he flew his base leg. This put me in the path of the left traffic and too close to the guy behind me. The controller refused my request for a 360 and pleaded with me to land... so that left me with only one option.

From 2000 feet and less than a mile from the runway, I applied full rudder and corrective aileron and flew the absolute steepest approach yet. Subhanallah.... even with all the cross controlling, I still made it down and off the runway before the previous traffic had even turned off at his end!

Wicked - I can't get over how awesome flying is.

Anyone have similar excitement?

Isn't that fun, the controlled sinking feeling is
awasome. Better than flying 500FPM decent. I have done it quiet a few times, I fly from Palwaukee airport, one of the busiest GA airport in US and when you have Cessna and Dassault business jets behind you on final, you wanna get down ASAP and taxi out.
