politics, and the arts among Tabwa people of the Congo. The book and

recently, "A Saint in the City: Sufi Arts of Urban Senegal" (2003), also
organized with Polly, won the African Studies Association's Herskovits Prize

has added a new journalAsalaamu Alaikum,
I was wondering if anyone can recommend some good books with TRANSLITERATED URDU as well as some good books with URDU SCRIPT for CHILDREN.
My husband is Pakistani, and we have 2 daughters (ages 7 and 5) from my previous marriage. We are going to be trying for another baby soon, InshaAllah.
Our 7 yr old can already read, and since both of our daughters are young, I would like to expose them as much as possible to Urdu and the Pakistani culture in the hope that they might pick up enough to speak the language and keep up with the fluency that the new baby will hopefully have (being started on Urdu and English from the start).
I would mostly like to do this through books, as my daughters both LOVE books.
So that you understand...I myself do not speak Urdu and am trying to learn, but it's very hard for me.
If you could recommend anything that would be great.

Also, I was wondering if anyone knew of a Quran (obviously seriously abridged and/or paraphrased) for children. I am a revert to Islam, and I know in Christianity, there are Bibles for children which relate the stories and the basic values and such to kids in a manner they can relate to. I'd like to find something of this sort to relate the Quran, the Hadith, and the History of Islam to my young children in a way that they would understand and also take an interest in the subjects. As everyone knows....sincere interest/curiosity is the best motivation for seeking knowledge.
