I think that the muslims who shy away from you because of your guide dog are insensitive, brainless people. They are fed this rubbish about dogs being haraam and they just accept it as a black and white thing without using their brain.

I am also a muslim convert. I dont have any dogs yet but I do love the boxer breed and hopefully one day I will be the owner of a couple of boxers.

Wassalam'alaykum fellow dog owner. Thanks for sharing and welcome. My experiences with my dog around have been similar to your own, although as of late I've just made it a point to surround myself with far more open-minded muslims. I have had some nasty run-ins, but feel I need not justify my pet's existence to others. I love all of Allah's creatures, and choose not to live in fear of them. Your dog in particular is a majestic animal that I am in awe of, as it claims the role of caregiving for the precious lives of beings who rely upon its guidance. Wow... I'm sure he is just an awesome companion!

Assalaam 'alaykum dog-lovers, and Ramadan qareem.
So, yes, I am one of those rare breeds--a Muslim dog owner. Well, I guess I never fit all the "typical" categories. I'm an American convert to Islam, and, unfortunately, I didn't do my research thoroughly enough before making my decision to convert. I found about the Islamic aversion to dogs after I had converted, and I decided to slug it out. I'm also blind, and my companion is a guide dog from The Seeing Eye in Morristown, New Jersey. He's a mistchevious, fluffy, handsome, brilliant golden retriever. We've been together for almost two years now; he's my second dog. Of course, it's quite disconserting that all of my Muslim friends shy away from me because they don't want to get near my dog. I try to be culturally snsitive about it, but it does get to me sometimes.
