  • A friend of mine, who was on an H-1 visa, recently got laid off from his job. He was asking me about what his options were to work for another company in the US, and how they might sponsor him (issue another H-1, or be able to use the old one). I'm afraid I'm not too well versed about these rules. Do any of you know people who were in a similar situation, and how they were able to resolve it? Thx.

Thanks. I'll let my friend know.

  • Have any of you all seen an article about Star Wars in a publication called "Musim Magazine" several years ago when "the Phantom Menace" first came out? A freind named Hakim Archuletta once told me that George Lucas used to hang out in several circles at Berkley and one of them was a bunch of mystics who used to dress in maghribi jilabas (identical to the ones worn by the jedi) and call eachother sidi, or my master. That article went into some of the finer details of this connection and if anyone has a back issu... Read More

  • Saw this film on Wednesday evening. It was strangely intriguing, about a widow who's down on his luck after losing his job and not getting on so well with his family situation (he lives with is daughter and her good for nothing husband)... Through an act of kindness he acquires a dog and the rest of the story is about how his luck begins to change. A good story, different, a bit melancholy in a way but actually very watchable. Maybe I was tired at the end of a long day but the thought that this story could have ... Read More

  • I was just talking to someone who said she's never been in love and I was about to tell what it felt like - then got confused because I couldn't pin it down. Is it that heart-racing, slightly-sick butterflies-in-stomach feeling? Or is that infatuation? Or is it that deep affection, that warm protective feeling when you look at them sleeping? Or is that just affection? Is it the feeling of having your stomach ripped out so your heart falls straight down and you cry all night? Or is that grief? Can anybody describ... Read More
