  • There was once a hillbilly who was extremely sad with life because people always made fun of him. He decided to do something about it. He sat back and thought about it. Suddenly he thought - "I have never seen anyone making fun of Italians. So, if I start talking and behaving like them, no one will be able to make out that I am a hillbilly and make fun of me." He went into isolation for three months and after a lot of practice, he walked confidently into a shop and said, "I am a very hungry. Give me some p... Read More

  • I belong to God, as has often been shown; yet I also belong to myself. He becomes himself through me. I live in him, and I live in myself. I have two aspects, he and I, divine and human. But he is not I, and I am not he. My actions are the theatre in which he expresses himself; to him I am a vessel. -Ibn Arabi, ?Fusus al-hikam?

  • Yossi and Janine, an elderly Jewish couple, are sitting together on an aeroplane flying to the Far East. Suddenly, over the public address system, the Captain announces, "Ladies and Gentlemen, I am afraid I have some very bad news. Our engines have ceased functioning, and this plane will be going down in a few minutes time. The good news is that I can see an island below us that should be able to accommodate our landing. The bad news is that this island appears to be uncharted - I am unable to find it on our map... Read More

  • An aspiring Yogi wanted to find a Guru. He went to an Ashram and his preceptor told him, "You can stay here but we have one important rule: all students observe Mouna or a vow of silence. You will be allowed to speak in 12 years." After practicing for 12 long years, the day came when the student could say his one thing or ask his one question. He said: "The bed is too hard." He kept going for another 12 years of austere discipline, meditation and silence and finally got the opportunity to speak again. ... Read More

    August 15, 2005 at 5:16pm
yeah, I am. The link was for that page but I guess since you have to join the village to read it, it takes you to the home page. I will edit the post here to clarify. Thanks.

  • Our grasp of what it is like to undergo phenomenal states is supplied to us by introspection. We also have an admittedly incomplete grasp of what goes on objectively in the brain and the body. But there is, it seems a vast chasm between the two. It is very hard to see how this chasm in our understanding could ever be bridged. For no matter how deeply we probe into the physical structure of neurons and the chemical transactions which occur when they fire, no matter how much objective information we come t... Read More

  • Dear all, Please find below a link to a home office consultation - released on Friday - on the powers of the Home Secretary to deport on the grounds of the person(s) not being conducive to the public good. www.homeoffice.gov.uk Given the present climate in the UK, a number of decisions could potentially be made which would disproportionately target one segment of society over another. Or nationals of certain countries over others. This consultation is your chance to put ... Read More

A_S I very much hope we don't go down that road. I don't like the idea of treating foreigners as if they are less human than Briton-born nationals. We're all in this together

  • Some of you may have noticed that the notorious and headline grabbing political extremist party called Hizb ut-Tahrir has or soon will be banned in the UK. In recent years, it had already been banned in some European countries such as Germany and Denmark, and I dear say good riddance to them! For far to long, the UK Muslim youth have been in-doctored with views that an ?Islamic State? is the only way to save them from their day-to-day issues. Oh Really?? Have we ever put education first, second or ev... Read More
