  • May, Felton, McCants and Marvin Williams are all leaving UNC for the NBA. Jawad Williams, Jackie Manuel and Melvin Scott completed their eligibility. UNC loses its top 7 scorers from the championship team. What do you think their chances are in the Draft and how will UNC fare next season?

    May 3, 2005 at 1:50am
mccants will either be a ray allen or joe forte may will be an elton brand type felton will be solid, perhaps a GPayton marvin williams has unlimited potential

It really shouldn't be a big problem for the Tar Heels as all their 5 incoming freshmen are in the top 100 plyers in the nation.

  • It seems as though men in relationships manage to maintain their other friendships, while women find their social needs curbed by their significant other. Why? I'm sure there is some natural, biological, female vs. male component to the explanation of such behavior. But, the question is: Why don't women realize that they make themselves boring by compromising their individuality, and as a result their significant other begins to lose interest in them? Not only that, but once the relationship hits a tough... Read More

  • Do you believe in arranged marriages? Do they have any merits? why so? or why not?

    July 16, 2005 at 12:03am

  • Those cute cats and dogs sold at pet stores come from a horrible, horrible place: puppy and kitten mills. Animal breeders are in the business of making money and animal welfare is, unfortunately, not a priority. I'm including some information about pet mills from the Peta website. Cages, Filth, and Neglect Puppy mill kennels can consist of small cages made of wood and wire mesh, tractor-trailer cabs, or simple tethers attached to trees. One Arkansas facility had ?cages hanging from the ceiling of an u... Read More

  • I'm all about the PW today. Here's a Knopf novel pubbing in May, written by a Pakistani-Brit. While it didn't receive a starred PW review, it looks like something that I may want to read: In this poignant, lushly written novel, Aslam (Season of the Rainbirds ) explores the interwoven lives of Pakistani immigrants in an English town they have rechristened Dasht-e-Tanhaii, "the Wilderness of Solitude" or "the Desert of Loneliness." The disappearance of Jugnu and Chanda... Read More

  • I forgot to share this bit of news from Publisher's Weekly with you guys. It was announced back in February: A surprise announcement from the Free Press disclosed that Pakistani president Gen. Pervez Musharraf has signed with senior editor Bruce Nichols for a political memoir that seems sure to shed some new light on the war against terrorism (Musharraf has himself been the object of several thwarted assassination attempts). He will focus on the elements that have led to the current crisis, from the ri... Read More

The first turtle turns to the second and says, "You've gotta go back and get the opener or else we have no beer." "No way," says the second. • Three mice were sitting in a bar talking about how tough they were. The first mouse slams a shot and says, "I play with mouse traps for fun. I'll run into one on purpose and as it is closing on me, I grab the bar and bench press it twenty or thirty times." And with that he slams another shot. The second mouse slams a shot and says, "That's nothing. I take those Decon tablets, cut them up and snort them just for the fun of it." And with that he slams another shot. The third... Read More

  • salaam for those who have already taken the DAT, which books would you say have the best material to study from and which exams are the best for practice? I have the princeton review books for the MCAT and I have Kaplan's DAT review book. The kaplan exam's seem a bit too easy though. If there are other sources I would really appreciate the feedback. also, it seems as if the exam is more strategic than knowledge based. if anyone can share their strategies (ex: time management) that would also be ni... • An old Arab lived close to New York City for more than 40 years. He would have loved to plant potatoes in his garden, but he is alone, old and weak. His son is in college in Paris, so the old man sends him an e-mail. He explains the problem: "Beloved son, I am very sad, because I can't plant potatoes in my garden. I am sure, if only you were here, you would help and dig up the garden for me, I love you, Your Father" The following day, the old man receives a response e-mail from his son: "B... Read More

  • "And most certainly shall We try you by means of danger, and hunger, and loss of worldly goods, of lives and of fruits. But give glad tidings unto those who are patient in adversity - who, when calamity befalls them, say, 'Verily, unto God do we belong and, verily, unto Him we shall return.' It is they upon whom their Sustainer's blessings and grace are bestowed." The Holy Quran, 2:155-157
