  • Salaam I just wanted to recommend the following book- it is a tremendously good read... "War Talk" by Arundhati Roy- it is a collection of very powerful essays that deal with the so-called war against terror, nuclear power, Muslims massacered in India etc. Roy won the Booker Prize for her novel "The God of Small Things"- also a good read. For those who do check the essay collection out or the novel- enjoy!

  • Missy - looks like we're still online only pals.. Anyway just wanted to say Happy Birthday for Saturday although wanted to wish it to you in person. It was too crowded to find anyone there! Hope you had a good one. Tell us about your day!

  • Salaam I was really surprised (and happy) to see so many members in this village. I think that the only way people can really appreciate the country is by actually living there and experiencing it for oneself. There are far too many misconceptions about life there... I grew up in the capital and went to Manarat Al Riyadh. I miss the school and the city immensely. Although there were things that I found frustrating (having to call a limosine to go places being one of them), the number of things I liked about li... Read More

Welcome! This is the BEST time of year.

  • Quite a few of my female muslim friends, I am sad to say have come across "muslim" men of deplorable character who take advantage of them (i.e. harrass them verbally or worse) and then blame it on the women for dressing inappropriately while using Islam as a scapegoat for not being able to control their urges (e.g. they should be wearing Hijab, etc). What's worse is that some of the females (often like rape victims) blame themselves even if they were dressed fairly conservatively. I am of the opinion that ... Read More

  • Charsi This would have you wondering what i mean by this. It could be one of two things. 1. The literal term Charas as in dope. 2. The karai tikka maker in "namak mandi" peshawar pakistan. I am interested in #2, have you ever been to charsi, how was your experience?

  • is it halal to require a potential wife to like norah jones? i mean, can i say, no! not interested cuz u dont like norah??

    May 5, 2005 at 7:53am
OOo thanks Getuppa, i was reading it very wrongly. so is it a pre requisite, hmmmmmm well, norah jones has to like herself, so i dont see what the problem is here.
    May 5, 2005 at 6:18am
hm a strange prerequisite. Would be a bit weird if potential wife was as in love with norah tho dont u think....?? Shouldn;t u be relieved you have less competition? ;o)

  • Who do you think the most overrated celebrities are? Here is my list: -Britney Spears (she can't sing for s**t!) -Jennifer Lopez (she is really not that pretty and can't sing either....her body is unproportionate and she never wears lipstick, which she badly needs) -Jennifer Aniston (she looks just plain ugly to me nowadays, no wonder her and Brad are no longer together) Feel free to comment or contribute.

    June 7, 2005 at 4:02pm
Jessica Simpson and Paris Hilton are extremely overrated...neither of them have any talent but got famous for being "hot" blondes with dumb reality shows that are about as real ...
    June 4, 2005 at 10:15pm
Dude, all celebrities are overrated. It's futile to list all of them. Of coure, there are exceptions, I really liked Russell Crowe, and Tom Hanks (he can't make a bad movie). ...

  • Any opinions about these 2 schools? I'm curious what their rep is outside the NY area. Particularly whether people think there's a big difference between the 2 or if they're perceived to be the same. I've gotten mixed reviews either stating that they're pretty much the same or others say columbia is in a different league. On rare occasion I've found NYU to be better (by ranking or otherwise).

    May 13, 2005 at 9:34pm
