  • Hi, as you all know the disaster in New Orleans has left thousands of homeless. I received this today, so if any of you know of anybody at all who can assist, please pass this along. As a side note, if any of you are interested in helping the victims out, more than monetary now, there is a great demand for blood, so please go and donate. Also clean, new toiletries. There are drop off sites all over the city. Thanks A plea from Bishop John Bryson Chane, Episcopal Bishop of Washington According to... Read More

  • This SriLankan rapper is beginning to raise her voice in USA after having her biggest success in UK even before releasing her first album (thanks to internet and file sharing). Her first song "Galang" was instant hit when it spread all over internet. Her rap songs are actually a flavor of African Rap, which is quite different from our own USA brand of rap. But her lyrics, if you DO understand them, are really angry, direct, and very very catchy. I know you can find lots of great articles and reviews online (... Read More

  • Salaam, Many of us have already applied or are in the process of applying to dental schools for fall 2006, including myself. Do any of you who recently started or graduated from dental school have any advice for us? More importantly, do any of you have any acquaintances at different dental schools? I found a connection to UofM, CWRU, and Harvard but I need more!! Thanks Usman

  • I was having a conversation with a friend of mine last week-end about a religious issue. While I was expressing my opinion, that friend interrupted me and said "Ali, please, you have to learn to respect other people's beliefs." I was shocked by this statement. I heard this before, but in another form ("Kafer!" " ") I was simply stating an opinion, without bashing or insulting any belief. I noticed in this conversation what I have been observing for so long talking to some muslim friends is the inability t... Read More

  • I feel terrible for not having posted this sooner. Hurricane Katrina left many victims in her wake, humans and animals alike. I've read so many heartbreaking stories about people who had to leave their pets behind since shelters don't allow animals. There have been clips of dogs pacing the rooftops of flooded homes, swimming through the water or stranded on tree tops. It's heartbreaking but we can help. The following groups are helping rescue animals in this tragedy: ? The American Society for the Preventio... Read More

  • How fast should the earth be spinning to neautralize gravity? If we can get centripetal accelration from earth's rotation to equal the gravitational pull (g=9.8m/s^2), we have, basically, neturalized gravity. Let's go through this ROMANTIC calculation. (go to end if you are not interested in the calculation) a(centripetal) = r x w^2 (w = angular velocity) since r and w are perpendicular, a= rw^2 we want this a to equal g 9.81 = rw^2 r = radius of earth = 6.4 x 10^6 plugging everything in, we g...
