Oppression Shariffa Carlo The other day, I was giving a class, and we were discussing the hadith: Abu Huraira narrated that the Prophet said, "On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will grasp the whole (planet of) earth (by His Hand) and shall roll up the heaven with His right Hand and say, 'I am the King. Where are the kings of the earth?'" Sahih Bukhari vol 9: Hadith 479. This led to a discussion about the responsibility that comes with power, and the hadith, Narrated 'Ab... Read More

Forgive me creator o' the mighty (so non-pc islamically) pigskin, for I have sinned. I distracted a devout fan from an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime moment. In fact, said fan didn't even hear about it until the next day. His 'boys choked. And he wasn't there to see it or project spiritual support. Please let me know how to make this one up. The guilt gnawed at me today incessantly.

Noam Chomsky The Independent, August 7, 2005 This month's anniversary of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki prompts only the most sombre reflection and most fervent hope that the horror may never be repeated. In the subsequent 60 years, those bombings have haunted the world's imagination but not so much as to curb the development and spread of infinitely more lethal weapons of mass destruction. A related concern, discussed in technical literature well before 11 September 2001, is that nuclear weapo... Read More

Salams Houstonians, So what do you think? Is Hurricane Rita hit or miss? Should we be worried, or is the Media overplaying it, bc of the Katrina's effect? Do you all remember Allison? Salaam, The first muslim loop lunch went very well. A bunch of people got to know each other for the first time. The thai food was good. I definitely recommend that place. We spoke about what to do for the next Loop Lunch. An idea was tossed around for everyone to bring their lunch and meet in the big lawn area across from the Sears tower. I believe on wacker and jackson. This would be dependent on weather of course. Bringing your lunch hopefully will attract more muslims and we are not all forced into ea... Read More

Hello peoples I moved in with my parents at the end of July. It hasn't been all hunky dory, but I guess I didn't expect or want it to be. One thing that I have begun to consider more and more is how my parents love for me is conditional. It is only possible if certain conditions are met. For instance, getting myself back to grad school and getting a degree would make them love me more. Also doing my prayers and not running around with God Knows Who. So as more conditions get satisfied, the more my parents ... Read More

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "The most enviable of my friends is a believer with little property who finds pleasure in prayer, who performs the worship of his Lord well, who obeys Him in secret, who is obscure among men, who is not pointed out by people, and whose provision is a bare sufficiency with which he is content."
