  • How many times has this happened to you? The stories remain the same, from the first note you passed in grammar school, to the woman you met through a mutual friend in college: ? You meet a girl who is everything you ever wanted in a life-partner: attractive, funny, smart, great personality, laughs at your jokes, understands who you are as a human being, etc. You talk to her briefly, and find out that she is even more attractive now that you've spoken to her. You ask her out. She says to you: "I J... Read More

  • Oooo ... I know I?m gonna get a beating for this. But that?s ok, cuz our community needs to understand the points here. This is for all those girls who want ?an awesome guy.? In other words, this is for most girls. Remember, I?m ONLY trying to help. You can take it or leave it ? your choice. One thing I?ve never understood is why almost all desi girls want guys who are better than them at just about everything. Guy?s gotta be financially better, more educated (at leeeeast as educated), physically stronger an... Read More

  • If Prophet Muhammad visited you just for a day or two If he comes unexpectedly I wonder what you'd do! Oh, I know you'd give your nicest room To such an honoured guest And all the food you serve to him would be the very best And you would keep assuming him You are glad to have him there That serving him in your own home Is a joy beyond compare But...when u saw him coming would u meet him at the door with arms outstretched in welcome To ur heavenly visitor? • Salaam all! I work with a volunteer group called Chicago Cares. The agency is hosting its annual service day on June 11. They expect about 10,000 volunteers--mostly corporate groups--to come out and work on community projects. I signed up as a project site manager (PSM) and went to the orientation tonight, where they mentioned that they are 100 PSMs short for this year. So I thought I should put the word out there to you guys...hoping that some of you amazing souls will step up and sign up :) Please check o... Read More

  • I'm moving to DC in a few weeks for a new job. The job is in Tysons Corner but I think I'd like to live in DC. I'm finding how hard it is to find apts that have parking in DC. Does anyone live in the Tysons Corner/McLean area? Is it really suburban (quiet) or is it ok for a single professional? I'd really appreciate any advice. Thanks, Arfa

  • I have many that I could mention here. However, I will only mention the newest one that I love. "Imagine having to choose between the one you love and your fam. It's like having to cut off your right or left hand." It might seem childish on the surface. But there is much depth there that many could relate to.

  • I am curious about this celebration. I am not very learned about sufism, and so have joined this village to try and gain more knowledge, as I am intrigued. My question is this: If the prophet did not celebrate his own birthday and it was not celebrated by those that loved him most after his death (i.e, Beebi Aisha, Ali, etc.) then what makes it permissible for us to commemorate this day now? I mean, why this certain day of all days? I thought birth date has no real significance in Islam and was actually d... Read More

  • I've been recently pondering about the guidelines of halaal/haraam meat. I've grown up in a family where my parents always told me to eat Zabiha meat and nothing else. I was never allowed to eat any meat from restaurants or any products that had that kind of stuff. Recently I came into contact with someone that said that Zabiha is purely a Sunnah, but it is not haraam to eat meat that has not been slaughtered the Zabiha way. Does anyone know what exactly Muslims are supposed to be eating in terms of meat?

    April 27, 2005 at 10:38pm

  • First graders can be really cute - the majority of them at least! But there's one thing I really get bothered by...Any single opportunity they get - the children must come up to me and tell me every single detail of what happened to them every second at recess, lunch and before school. • Inshallah, my dad and I will be visiting Washingtion DC from May 30th to June 10. My sister just moved there after getting married last year. • No not the baby biological clock that women are supposed to be working to.. but the desire to settle down.. Is it there for men, as it is for women Is it significant / urgent or easily ignored And what form does it take ( I want to be young enough to play with my kids or .. some other) I have heard a few men, sorry, loafers, describe life and the marriage question as 'There's no hurry, I don't have a biological clock, I don't worry about it, it'll happen.. at some point..'

This is pretty cool for me since I was born and raised in Bangalore, India but my family is from Hyderabad, India and I had lived in Hyderabad a few months before moving to Toronto, Canada.
