East Anglian Ambulance Service have launched a national "In Case of Emergency (ICE)" campaign with the support of Falklands war hero Simon Weston and in association with Vodafone's annual life savers award. The idea is that you store the abbreviation ICE in your mobile phone address book, and against it enter the number of the person you would want to be contacted "in case of emergency". In an emergency situation ambulance and hospital staff will then be able to quickly find out who your next of kin a... Read More

July 10, 2005 The Enigma of Damascus By JAMES BENNET The opera house in Damascus was a long time coming. Hafez al-Assad, the iron-willed military man who ruled Syria for three decades, was in power just a few years when he laid the cornerstone. But lack of materials and equipment, hard economic times and a devastating fire delayed the project year after year. It fell to Assad's son and successor, Bashar, to finish the job. He opened Al Assad opera house with his wife, Asma, last year. Decorated with ... Read More

Organic, fairly traded Basmati rice from India is available through AHAR Organics. See what you can do about getting your local desi grocer to carry this line. Far superior to the unsustainable methods of growing used for commercial export-quality rice -- and superior to the california, not-real-basmati Lundberg organics.

A Message by George Carlin (his wife recently passed away): ========= The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness. We drink too much, smoke too m... Read More

Beauty XXV {Khalil Gibran} And a poet said, "Speak to us of Beauty." Where shall you seek beauty, and how shall you find her unless she herself be your way and your guide? And how shall you speak of her except she be the weaver of your speech? The aggrieved and the injured say, "Beauty is kind and gentle. Like a young mother half-shy of her own glory she walks among us." And the passionate say, "Nay, beauty is a thing of might ... Read More

I have a crazy theory as to who it is. I think it's Dudley. I think his mom might actually be a witch who has covered for herself and made herself out to be a muggle So that makes Dudders half blooded. As for the prince part, we know he's a spoiled brat. Maybe Harry will need him to help bring down Voldemort. I can't wait to find out who it actually is. It might just be a new character. What are your theories?
July 20, 2005 at 7:06pmYa, also can only see 3 messages. Was curious did anyone get it right?July 19, 2005 at 9:11pm*SPOILER* haha ok my Dudley theory sounds crazy now that i've actually read the book.

I went to Victoria, Vancouver Island recently and traveled to the Tofino, Pacific Rim peninsula which is the north west of Victoria. the whole drive is really beautiful and breath taking. Some of the places and the scenery is hard to describe in words. Tofino Harbour is so, misty and foggy when you look toward small islands, it's like the movies, so magical. If you ever get chance to go Vancouver, don't miss it. It takes two hour in ferry from Vancouver to Victoria.

I was thinking (with the help of Faten) that we don't have enough chances to really learn about our faith except in a manner which indoctrinates us with someone elses ideas rather than engaging us and making us a part of this rich Islamic tradition that we are heirs to. On that note I thought it would be a good idea to have a book of the month club. Looking for people serious about learning and discussing Islam together in a way that is both enjoyable, enrichening, and rewarding... both in this life and wit... Read More

Hey, has anyone here read Sebastian Japrisot's A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT? I just finished watching Jean-Pierre Jeunot's film adaptation of it, starring Audrey Tautou and it was absolutely incredible. I've wanted to read this novel for a while now and will probably buy it soon, but I'd love to hear your thoughts about the movie and or the book!
