  • First graders can be really cute - the majority of them at least! But there's one thing I really get bothered by...Any single opportunity they get - the children must come up to me and tell me every single detail of what happened to them every second at recess, lunch and before school. After trying to look interested and amused for about 1.5 months....I just can't fake it any longer. How do I get kids to stop hounding me to tell me every detail of their lives without hurting their feelings?? Help!

Salaam! I know exactly what you mean - my grade threes also had the need to share every single detail. And, as much as I loved them, there wasn't enough time in the day to hea...

  • Inshallah, my dad and I will be visiting Washingtion DC from May 30th to June 10. My sister just moved there after getting married last year. Has anyone visited The Cheese Factory in Washington DC? I watched a show on this restaurant chain and the food and service seemed amazing. Need to know what are the key places to visit and when is the best time to visit them. Do Washington DC Naseebers get together often? Perhaps we can all meet up while I am in town. Update: ================================... Read More

  • No not the baby biological clock that women are supposed to be working to.. but the desire to settle down.. Is it there for men, as it is for women Is it significant / urgent or easily ignored And what form does it take ( I want to be young enough to play with my kids or .. some other) I have heard a few men, sorry, loafers, describe life and the marriage question as 'There's no hurry, I don't have a biological clock, I don't worry about it, it'll happen.. at some point..'

  • Bangalore is battling it out with Hyderabad to become the Silicon Valley of India. This is pretty cool for me since I was born and raised in Bangalore, India but my family is from Hyderabad, India and I had lived in Hyderabad a few months before moving to Toronto, Canada. What do I end up doing in Toronto, Canada? Working in IT! Leaving future Silicon Valleys to work in IT in Canada! I think this is quite ironic! Whenever there is outsourcing talk about jobs going to India, I smile and say I am happy ... Read More

  • I've been hearing the word 'commitmentphobe' bandied about a great deal recently. Usually in relation to men. However, this being an equal-opportunities Village, we are not going to be making any such assumptions here. My question is: is there such a thing as a commitmentphobe? Or is it that they haven't met the right person yet??

  • If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it was and always will be yours. If it never returns, it was never yours to begin with. If, however, it just sits in your living room, messes up your stuff, eats your food, uses your telephone, takes your money, and never appears to have noticed that you actually set it free in the first place, You either married it or gave birth to it!

  • Assalamu 3alaikum to all, Jazakum Allahu khairan for this Village, wallahi it's an awesome thing to know about fellow shabaab that share the flight bug. The opening statements by the village founder are truly excellent, masha' Allah. There's absolutely nothing in this world that comes close to the exhiliration of aerobatics on a beautiful day. Also, with all the possible achievements in life, few can compare in jubilation to a PERFECT landing - the sort that are so soft, you can feel the w... Read More

  • complete vs incomplete proteins I would like to reduce the amount of meat and animal products I eat. At the same time - I've always read about how important it is to eat "complete proteins" which are found in animal products most easily. I've also read before that you can combine certain non-animal foods to make a complete protein - i.e. they complement each other and each has the amino acids that the other is missing. Suppose then (for the sake of simplicity!) I eat 1 cup of lentils... Read More

  • i found this on someobody83's village entry, thought i would share it with you guys: A little boy wanted $100 very badly and prayed for weeks, but nothing happened. Then he decided to write God a letter requesting the $100. When the postal authorities received the letter addressed to God, Canada, they decided to send it to the Prime Minister. Paul Martin was so amused that he instructed his secretary to send the little boy a $5 bill. Martin thought this would appear to be a lot of money to a little bo... Read More
